Now that school’s out for summer, lots of fun family adventures are ahead. Annapolis is teeming with activities, including fun things to do with Dad! And, let’s not forget all the great cities outside of Annapolis, too. With so many places to go and stuff to do, you’ll have every weekend booked from here on out. Make it a summer the whole family will remember with our list of things to do with Dad. Which will you try first?

1. Go Boating

Summers in Maryland wouldn’t be what they are without the water. On any given day, you’ll see parents and their kids cruising around the Chesapeake on boats, kayaks, and paddleboards. Just don’t forget your life jackets! Likewise, if Dad loves to fish, pack up your poles and get your sea legs ready to reel in some big ones.

2. Go to a State Park

As one of Maryland’s largest state parks, Gunpowder Falls State Park is a great choice for hiking, biking and bird watching. There are 120 miles of trails, plus beaches, pavilions, and playgrounds. And, if you went hiking there last summer, try something new this time around, such as horseback riding or canoeing. Finally, before you head out, stop into Cape Ace Hardware for some bug spray, insulated Yeti water bottles and more.

3. Take a Beach Day

Maryland is full of beautiful beaches to explore. You can stay local, or if you’re up for a drive, head over to Ocean City. While you’re there, play a game of Frisbee or mini golf, fly kites, jump waves and build massive castles and creatures in the sand. Afterward, stroll down the boardwalk and grab some grub (ahem, Thrasher’s french fries) before heading back home.

4. Plant a Garden

Kids are never too young to start exercising their green thumbs. Gardening is an activity that you can work on together all season long and beyond. Plus, kids will have a blast watching the flowers bloom and picking fresh veggies for dinner. On the other hand, perhaps there’s a landscaping project you’ve wanted to start that the kids can help with. Whatever it is, Cape Ace Hardware has you covered with a large lawn and garden department. We have everything from mulch to seasonal plants and bulbs, grass seed, fertilizer, and even some power equipment.

5. Build DIY Projects

For the handy dads out there, summer is a great time to break out the tools and paint cans. If you’ve got the supplies, consider building something together, like a birdhouse or a bike ramp. But, if you need to stock up before getting started, stop by Cape Ace and pick up a gallon of Valspar or Benjamin Moore paint. Feeling adventurous? Build a tree house, swing set or lemonade stand to keep them involved all summer long.

6. See a Baseball Game

Treat the kids with tickets to a pro baseball game. Of course, the Orioles are playing all summer at Camden Yards in Baltimore and there are several minor league or short-season teams playing, too. For instance, you can catch the Bowie Baysox at Prince George’s Stadium or the Aberdeen Ironbirds at Ripken Stadium. From the live action to the hot dogs, it will be a trip to remember forever. If your family isn’t into sports, consider a concert in D.C. or a fun event here in Annapolis

7. Go Camping

There’s nothing better than sitting around the campfire with the kids. This summer, take a break from technology and see what nature has to offer. Whether you stay at a local campground or take a trip out of state, it’s bound to be a great time. To help you prepare, Cape Ace Hardware has everything you need, including tents, coolers, portable stoves, cooking fuel, and camping chairs.
